The church is a body; it is made of different parts. Of course, the church is a body. It needs many different parts. It needs that variety, and it needs each part to function.

This is a rather familiar sermon. I wonder if it is going to have a twist. Either way, it is true that the church is made of many different types of people, and many are unappreciated -- but very needed.

How often do you thank God specifically for some part of your body? You should be thankful for it all -- but we are not often thankful for it all. And though one's part may not seem attractive, it is useful, and a necessary part of the body of Christ. We're all here for a reason.

People need to be more accepting of one another -- more verbal in their expression of appreciation. Everyone need to be loved, and there is little better way to express love that by simply stating it.

People need to be nurtured. But care is not simply a matter of caring. We need to know how to care for people. Just as plants cannot be taken care of by piles and piles of fertilizer and gallons and gallons of water at a time, taking care of people is a delicate activity. Love is not all that is needed; you need to know how a person wants to be loved.

When you want to nourish someone you study them. Learn how to meet their needs. And then, meet them.

To love is the greatest commandment. Practice it.
